Counselling and Psychotherapy in Birmingham
If you are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties and feel that exploring these would be beneficial or supportive to you, then maybe I can help you.
You will have the opportunity to discuss what feels important, painful or challenging to you in a confidential manner.
Counselling can help in both making meaning of your current life situation and dealing with unresolved issues (both current and past). We all find ourselves at some point in our lives experiencing overwhelming or difficult events e.g. bereavement, illness, relationship breakdown, bullying or work related stress, to name but a few.
It may be that having had difficulties in the past, one is still struggling to come to terms with her/his experience and their present existence is being affected.
Whether it is more of a deep-rooted trauma or a current life situation, counselling can help.
My approach as a Gestalt Psychotherapist
As a Gestalt practitioner, I focus on the whole of you: your thinking, feeling and body process e.g. tightness in your chest or ‘butterflies in your stomach’. I pay attention to my own experience when I am with you and use it to inform us of what may be going on. Our relationship is at the heart of the work, i.e. how we relate to one another. By relating in this manner, patterns of your behaviour and your being in the world come to light and can be addressed and explored more deeply, thus facilitating the possibility to bring about change if desired.
I am committed to my own personal development and hold a belief that the more I experience growth within myself, the more I am able to help you facilitate your own growth.
Gestalt therapy focuses on awareness; once we are more mindful of how we are in the world, there are more options available to us, thus we can lead less restricted lives. It is a ‘here and now’ therapy, with great emphasis on what happens at the present moment in the therapy room.
